Day 20 - Portland

The bed here is so good I did not want to get out of it this morning. I laid in and watched some television for a while before getting breakfast and going to the hotel lobby to catch up with some friends who were already here for the show.

There is a steady flow of Beer Can people arriving at the hotel and it is great to catch up with your friends that you see only once a year at this event. Also it is a chance to meet people who you have known online through message boards, emails and Facebook for the first time.

Had some lunch and met up with more people and caught up on what they had been up to during the year. My room mate for the week and great friend Adam Murphy from Newcastle showed up during the afternoon as did my other best friends from our Aussie club Barry Rhall and Leanne Petch and Ray and Lyn Manwaring. They have been travelling around over here for nearly three weeks visiting the Pacific North West of the USA and went up into Canada to check it out as well. Also during the afternoon Max & Judith from Perth arrived from their long trip here.

The local chapters of the BCCA have done a great job in welcoming everyone to Portland. In the lobby of the hotel there are local people helping with questions and they are rostered on to assist with new arrivals with unloading their luggage and collectibles and moving the gear to their rooms.

Another thing they have organized is for tours of the Chapter members homes so we can go and visit them and view their collections. Adam, Bruce, Ray E, and myself along with other show attendees took this opportunity tonight and visited two of the collections.

Following these visits we came back to the hotel and went to the bar where I caught up with Rod Maitland great friend from South Aftrica and Mark Rodgers and Jeff Lebo who are from the USA. We also met up with other new arrivals since this afternoon before heading off for some sleep after a long day.
